Merry Christmas, David Spade
About a week ago, my wife took me to see “Twilight” at our local multiplex. It was the first time this year I had gone to see a movie, and except for taking the kids to see movies they wanted to see. I have little use for actors, actresses and the movie/TV entertainment industry in general. My favorite TV show is NFL football, because among other things, there are no actors. Wait, the Cowboys have Terrell Owens. I take that back.
My usual low opinion of actors took a sudden jolt yesterday when I read about David Spade. I know who he is. He used to be on Saturday Night Live. He shows up in a movie every couple of years and has a comedy show on one of the networks.
This year, David Spade donated $100,000 to the Phoenix Police Department so they could buy assault rifles for their officers. Phoenix officers have come to be on the front lines of the drug and illegal immigration war as our nations alleged leaders refuse to secure our borders. Mexican drug traffickers frequently show up in Phoenix and often, the Phoenix police officers are out gunned, having to fight fully automatic weapons with only their pistols. Things had gotten so bad in Phoenix that officers were willing to go out and buy these weapons out of their own pocket. Spade’s gift will give at least 50 officers AR-15 assault rifles.
What may happen in the future is always subject to speculation. At some point, there will probably be another shoot out between narco traffickers and the Phoenix police. There will be no way of knowing, but there is a real possibility that David Spade’s gift may save the life of a police officer.
I know little else about David Spade, but I know this. His gift to the Phoenix Police Department speaks volumes about his character. For this, David Spade, I hope you have the best possible Christmas!
